Bawumia is a brilliant, honest man; I needed his intelligence to assist me rule – Akufo-Addo reasons why he chose the economist
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has claimed that he chose Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to be his Vice President because of his honesty.
He also praised Dr Bawumia as a brilliant man that he required his intelligence to manage the country.
President Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia, an economist, paired as presidential and vice president candidates respectively for four general elections — 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 elections. They lost the first two elections but won the remainder.
Having served two terms, President Akufo-Addo will be quitting office following the 2024 elections. However, his Vice is seeking to be the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (npp) in the November 4 primaries.
Answering a question by a student of the Association International School as to why he chose the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), when the students called on him at the Jubilee House Today Thursday, October 26, President Akufo-Addo said “I think you are aware of our country in terms of the balance of people from the South, and people from the North.
“I think that for the unity of the country, it is good that we have a leadership where Northerners and Southerners are together so that the country can remain united. He is from the north and I needed somebody from the North to partner me for the elections and later for the governance.
“He is also a very clever man and I needed his brain to help me govern the country effectively, he is an honest person, and he speaks his honesty, he is not one of those people who you have to guess what they try to say, he says what has to say very directly and I like that, I prefer to deal with people who are also very direct, these are some of the reasons i chose Dr. Bawumia to be my vice president.”
